Description
Kits for making one pair of traditional leather oar collars to fit oars with a 2" diameter shaft - such as our straight blade and curved blade timber oars.
Sourced from our premium oar producer Barkley Sound Oars & Paddles, the leather in these kits is drum-dyed, full grain, lightly hot stuffed with an extra tallow top dressing and tanned using a vegetable process that is very durable. The leather is 1/8" (3mm) thick.
The collars are pre-punched ready to be laced together with the waxed twine provided. The strap is skived at either end to form a round, smooth stop (or button) at the handle end of the collar. Six copper nails are provided to secure the stop in place.

Leather Oar Kit
1st time for task. Good kit, instructions/diagrams good, my oar shafts 1-9/16", slice & repunch one side, used duct tape to hold top of collar on oar with stitching in line with edge of oar blade. Good result.
